Significant improvements have been made in diode performance. Light output is being directed more and more effectively by a succession of increasingly refined collimator optics. Combined with creative design, this has laid the foundation for a new generation of cutting-edge products.
Until now, LED luminaires have been used primarily for luminance-based applications such as decoration and guidance. With the advent of advanced collimator optics and High Power LED technology, however, LED luminaires enable designers to fill, underline, pinpoint, mark or blend architectural elements with powerful illumination.

The lighting effect can be diffuse or well defined, and the designer has full freedom in the use of colours. Using a single-colour LED or a combination of multi-coloured LEDs adds an extra dimension. This opens up the possibility of mixing colours from different luminaires or within one luminaire.
