Digital Addressable Lighting Interface - DALI

What is DALI?

DALI is a system for controlling lighting.

Instead of on-off switches and dimmers, digital control signals are sent to DALI devices. The DALI device then controls the light fittings (luminaires) attached to it. A DALI device might be a ballast that powers a set of flourescent tubes.

The main advantages of this approach are:

Summary

DALI - Digital Addressable Lighting Interface - brings the benefits of an industry standard to lighting-control systems.

It has been developed specifically with optimum lighting control in mind, both in local room control applications and when interfacing with building management systems.

The DALI protocol has been adopted as a standard by major ballast manufacturers such as Helvar, Hüco, Philips, Osram, Tridonic, Trilux and Vossloh-Schwabe.

As a dedicated communication interface for the control of lighting systems, DALI enables sophisticated lighting control while greatly increasing flexibility and reducing installation costs.
